Cuba Mission Trip

Wendy Kutz from the Woodbury Presbyterian Church has been spearheading mission trips to Cuba for many years (28 trips). She gave a wonderful Minute for Mission on July 16. If you missed it, you can listen here. Sunday, July 16, 2023 – The First Presbyterian Church in Pitman (pitmanpres.org) time 54:31 Cuba has skilled workers, just not money or resources. The mission trip purpose is to do things with them, not for them.

The group stays with a Presbyterian leader Xiomara Arenas – her home has 6 bedrooms, bunk beds. No more than 8 go on the trip. A typical day includes breakfast at the home, lunch, and dinner at the church. The group walk arounds the town and participates in any church activities in the morning and evening. The afternoon it is too hot for most activities so you mostly rest.

Wendy takes $1000 of OTC medicine and some prescriptions, and 25 pounds of ostomy supplies. They also like kitchen utensils, powdered milk and laundry sheets. The congregation would also like a monetary gift for construction of their new church.

Placetas is 4 hours from Havana. Wendy flies into Santa Clara which is 25 miles from Placetas. The flight is usually, Philly to Miami to Santa Clara. The next trip is the week of Christmas, usually Monday to Monday. The travel costs are around $1500 and you must get a VISA. The VISA application needs to start in mid-August. If you are interested in participating in the mission trip, please see Vicki Downing.
