Pedal for Promise is This Weekend

On Saturday, we will celebrate the 12th Annual Pedal for Promise cycling fundraiser. Yes, it has been twelve years! I certainly feel a sense of gladness and gratitude that we are still at it. I cannot help but smile when I think back to those first few years. In those early rides, we would pedal 50 miles from Rowan University in Glassboro to Ocean City. The Tuckahoe Bike Shop would loan us 50 new beach cruisers, recently assembled for the upcoming summer boardwalk rental fleet. So without any practice or training, I’d round up the kids and staff for our annual fifty mile bike ride down to the shore. I know what you’re thinking. I wasn’t completely irresponsible; I made arrangements to have EMT support and a bus to follow us to pick up those that dropped out along the way. Today, we practice year-round, ride quality road-ready bikes, and train in spin classes in the winter with coaches and professional trainers alongside our kids.  Pedal for Promise has grown to more than 400 cyclists and four beautiful, well-marked routes, ranging from 15 miles to a Metric Century. We are pleased to say Pedal for Promise has become a premier early season ride for the South Jersey area. In all of this, it has been a tremendous journey we’ve shared together…through your efforts and support we have transformed the lives of many young people who are part of our UrbanPromise community. I hope you will join me in encouraging our student cyclists by donating to their team fundraising page. Let’s help them reach their goal of raising $2,500. Every dollar raised provides Camden teens with innovative, safe, quality education. We know there are many great causes that tug at our hearts and wallets–this is our cause, and together we are changing the hopes and aspirations of our Camden teens.  Together we are changing lives. We could not do this without you! God Bless, Jim Cummings Director of Experiential Learning
